United 4 Youth
United for Youth is a collaborative of youth serving organizations, funded through United Way of Santa Cruz County. We provide a holistic approach to full scope of programming for youth and their families, such as homework support, job readiness, mentorship, outdoor appreciation, mental health, conflict resolution and communication skills building.
The Collaborative serves Santa Cruz's South County and is comprised of:
Conflict Resolution Center, Community Action Board, Living Evolution, and Pajaro Valley Prevention and Student Assistance.

Racial Equity Trainers Network
RETN started in February 2019 as a group of individuals working on race, equity and diversity issues. The intention for the Racial Equity Trainers Network (RETN) is that by working together, we can make a significant change on race/equity/diversity issues throughout Santa Cruz County.
RETN meets monthly and consists of a core group of about 15 individuals mainly representing nonprofit organizations including: Conflict Resolution Center (CRC), Resource Center for Nonviolence (RCVN), NAACP, The Diversity Center, Non Violent Communication Santa Cruz (NVC), Santa Cruz County Community Coalition to Overcome Racism (SCCCCOR), SURJ (Showing up for Racial Justice), and people from county agencies and faith based institutions.
We are now reaching out to more organizations, especially to organizations representing communities of color. If you are interested to join please email us at [email protected].

CRC has been part of YVPN since its formation in 2013 and is currently part of YAN.
Santa Cruz County was selected by Everyday Democracy, a national organization that has been using the dialogues process to address community issues since 1989, to be one of two “Partner Communities” across the country to facilitate a discussion on community and law enforcement relations. In 2019, we completed a round of dialogues involving youth, community members and law enforcement officials from each of the jurisdictions in Santa Cruz County. Later that year, we organized a Community Action Forum where all of the stakeholders came together to envision a future together.

Together these stakeholders will collaboratively lead, grow, and sustain safe, equitable, democratic communities. To accomplish this aim, Everyday Democracy will work collaboratively with communities to mobilize, train, and support a national learning network of community groups, public officials, and police departments to use a tested, equity-focused dialogue-to-change process to improve community-police relations.”

Santa Cruz County Blueprint for Shared Safety
Californians for Safety and Justice developed the “Blueprint for Shared Safety” in 2017 to provide a new survivor-centered framework for local leaders who are rethinking how to understand, invest in, evaluate, and achieve community safety and well-being. The Shared Safety framework is centered around five core principles: Shifting to a Public Health Frame, Wellbeing is Safety, Crime Survivors at the Center, Breaking the Cycle of Harm, and Making the System Work. The Shared Safety framework provides a coherent framework towards meaningful public safety outcomes.
The Santa Cruz County Community Corrections Partnership (CCP) Executive Committee approved support for local community assessment and planning under the Shared Safety framework. From January 2018 through October 2019, the CCP Community Education and Engagement Workgroup (CEEW) conducted strategic planning with leadership and support from the United Way of Santa Cruz County and the Santa Cruz County Probation Department. CEEW conducted focus groups, interviews, and convenings with support from Californians for Safety and Justice, the District Attorney’s Office, the Conflict Resolution Center, Community Action Board, Barrios Unidos, and Survivors Healing Center.
The input from the community dialogue process was compiled and sorted into five broad goal areas:
1. Prioritize healing and restoration for crime survivors
2. Ensure access to trauma recovery services
3. Engage crime survivors to prioritize and elevate their voices
4. Strengthen community trust and confidence in the criminal justice system
5. Recognize who is most vulnerable to crime in our community

Community Ambassadors
The goal of the CRC Community Ambassador Program is to educate people and increase general awareness in the community around mediation and other means by which people can resolve their disputes positively and peacefully.
CRC Community Ambassadors go out to neighborhood and youth groups, churches, schools, professional and business associations, nonprofit agencies, and many other places and put on educational programs, including lively presentations, mini-workshops, and skits, to provide tips on how people can communicate and resolve their own conflicts and how to access CRC’ free or low-cost services when needed. CRC’ educational programs vary in length from 15 minutes to 90 minutes, depending on audience and available time.
